  • Plantar Fasciitis Treatment and Prevention

    plantar fasciitis

One of the most common causes of heel pain is plantar fasciitis. The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue that runs from the heel to the middle foot bones. Pain and inflammation occurs when the plantar fascia is strained. Plantar fasciitis is a common running injury, but can also be caused by standing on hard surfaces for a long time, high arches or flat feet, and wearing shoes that don't or lack support.

If your heel hurts as soon as you get out of bed in the morning or you suffer from lots of pain at night, there are some things you can do for relief. First things first - rest. If you stay on your feet, this stress will make the pain and swelling worse. Put ice on your feet to reduce inflammation and pain.

When you have to walk around, wear shoes that have lots of support, cushioning and shock absorption. Shoes with great arch support can also help. You can even use shoe inserts to add some extra comfort and protection.

Compression socks and sleeves can also help ease the pain. The zensah foot sleeve for plantar fasciitisZensah Plantar Fasciitis Sleeve is designed to relieve arch and heel pain and is made from a moisture-wicking fabric with silver ions that keeps your feet cool, dry and free from odor and bacteria. This foot sleeve uses targeted T-band compression to lift and stabilize the plantar fascia. This sleeve is designed to fit comfortably in your shoes, so you can wear it whenever you need. The Zensah Plantar Fasciitis foot sleeve is made for men and women and comes in white or black. Great to wear all day or while exercising.

Sockwell ankle compression socks for plantar fasciitisAnother option to relieve the pain from plantar fasciitis is the Sockwell Plantar Ease ankle sock for women. Made from cashmerino wool, which is naturally antibacterial and thermo-regulating fabric These soft, stretchy ankle socks provide 20-30 mmHg of compression at the arch of the foot to sooth and minimize pain, while increasing circulation to reduce swelling. These socks are also designed with a seamless toe to prevent irritation and fit comfortably into your normal shoes. These ankle socks provide a more subtle look for plantar fasciitis than a foot sleeve.

To help speed up the heeling process, try doing a couple of exercises each day to help stretch the plantar fascia and achilles tendon. These stretches are particularly good to do in the morning for flexibility and strength.

Once you've finally healed, be very careful to avoid plantar fasciitis in the future. Make sure you are always wearing comfortable, well padded shoes - especially when running or walking long distances. You should also stretch the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon regularly, whether or not your are exercising. Also try to avoid walking or working out on hard surfaces as to not cause irritation.

  • Compression Socks or Sleeves? What's the difference?

    CEP Compression Leg Sleeves

Compression socks and sleeves are often worn by athletes to recover faster, energize legs and alleviate the pain from common injuries such as shin splints, plantar fasciitis, cramping and Achilles strains. Graduated compression provides support, the stabilization of muscles and joints and helps to decrease fatigue, swelling and soreness.

What's the difference between socks and sleeves?

For the most part, wearing socks or sleeves is a personal preference.  Leg sleeves are made without the foot portion of the sock and provide the same amount of compression as socks.  If you have a lucky pair of ankle socks or sandals, you can still comfortably wear them with calf sleeves. Compression sleeves are also great for triathlons to keep you moving when switching from swimming to cycling. If you are experiencing swelling, you should not wear compression sleeves.

To get the full recovery and performance benefits of compression, knee highs are ideal. If you are traveling, you should wear compression socks instead of sleeves to prevent blood from pooling in the ankles and feet. Compression socks are more effective in preventing blood clots (DVT) when flying or long periods of inactivity.

What should I wear for performance or recovery?

Zensah Compression SocksBoth compression socks and calf sleeves can be worn for performance and recovery. After a long run or tough workout, try 15-20mmHg compression socks to recover faster. To enhance performance, wear socks or sleeves that provide 20-30mmHg compression to boost endurance and to keep your legs feeling energized mile after mile. If you're looking for a sock or sleeve that you can wear for performance, recovery and travel, choose one that provides 15-20mmHg compression.

  • Best Socks For Restaurant Workers

Sockwell Compression SocksIf you work in a restaurant, you are constantly on your feet. When I was a waitress, I remember coming home at the end of the day with tired legs and super sore feet. I tried different shoes (that were acceptable with the dress code) and propped my feet up when I got home, but shift after shift, my legs would still ache. As it turns out, prevention is key.

Whether you are a waiter, waitress, bartender or chef, you can prevent fatigue at the end of your shift by wearing compression socks. Here are a few options that are perfect for people who spend a lot of time on their feet.

More often than not, when you work in a restaurant, you have to wear a uniform or have guidelines to follow. If you're in need of a solid black sock, the VIM & VIGR Nylon Knee High is a great choice. It is made with moisture-wicking fabric to help keep your skin dry and cool, which is great if you get sweaty feet running from table to table! This sock provides 15-20mmHg compression to keep your legs energized, prevent swelling and relieve tired, achy legs. Another option is the Allegro Italian Cotton Knee High. This durable sock also provides 15-20mmHg compression and is designed with a super soft ribbed pattern and a reinforced heel and toe to prevent holes from your shoes rubbing. The Allegro Italian Cotton Sock is available in Grey, Black, Beige, Brown and Navy and is made for men and women.

If you wear long pants (and your socks don't matter), or if you work in a place with a more relaxed dress code, try Sockwell compression socks. They come in tons of great patterns and colors. These socks are really soft and comfortable and make a big difference at the end of the day. Sockwell compression socks provide arch support and are designed with a seamless toe closure to prevent irritation. • All About Sockwell

    About Sockwell:

Sockwell compression socks are known for their comfort and style. The Chevron Collection are made of superfine Merino Wool, which is antibacterial and provides natural thermoregulation and keeps your feet dry.  Compression socks help increase circulation, reduce swelling and help to prevent the feeling of tired, achy legs. These socks are great for wearing out and about, around the house or at the gym. Sockwell compression socks also help to prevent blisters and feature a seamless toe to prevent irritation when you are walking long distances. Wear these compression socks when you travel, at the gym, when you’re home to speed up recovery, or when you are sitting or standing for a long time.

    My Experience:

sw7w_chevron_teal_3My first reaction to seeing the teal pattern and soft, Merino Wool fabric of the Sockwell Chevron style was that these are not your average compression socks! It can be hard to find cute compression socks for women these days that work, but Sockwell definitely delivers. They look like normal socks, but they also have 15-20mmHg graduated compression, which helps to increase circulation, prevent muscle fatigue and reduce swelling.  The socks are super soft because they are made of bamboo fibers, which also helps to preserve the color. The socks are antibacterial and blister-proof making them perfect for working out, traveling, wearing out and about, or when you are sitting or standing for a long time.

When I put the socks on, my legs instantly felt more relaxed. After driving multiple hours a day, my right leg tends to be shaky, tight and aches. It also doesn’t help that 80% of the time I’m sitting down. When I put on the sock, the tired feeling in my legs disappeared. I wore them all night until I went to bed. I woke up the next morning feeling back to normal. I was impressed. I decided to wear them all day and see how they felt. I found myself much more motivated to go to the gym because my legs still felt refreshed and energized at the end of the day. I think the biggest thing I noticed about wearing these socks was how tired my legs normally feel without them. I didn’t realize how much they ache on a normal basis because I got so used to it. It’s amazing what a difference a pair of socks can make!

    Comfort & Style

I like how simple Sockwell is. There are only two sizes (SM, ML) based on your shoe size so it’s a lot easier to find out than measuring yourself. Almost all of their socks are sold with 15-20mmHg compression. The only socks with 20-30mmHg compression for women are the Elevation Compression Sock and the Shadow Dot Socks. The only thing you really have to worry about is what color and style you like :)

    Sockwellchevron_collection

The best thing about compression socks is that now there are TONS of styles and colors to choose from. The Sockwell Chevron style comes in black, teal, espresso, natural chevron and thistle. Sockwell also has socks with stripes, polka dots, tile and floral patterns. They even have cute ankle socks that you can wear if you tend to wear low-cut socks. These socks are perfect for wearing with tighter jeans because of the shorter length. The women’s incline quarter length socks are super soft and provide excellent arch support.

Comfort is everything these days, and now you don’t have to give it up to be stylish. Many people think that compression socks are super tight and just squeeze your legs. Although they are tighter than normal socks, they don’t make your legs feel constricted. To be honest, I almost forgot I was wearing them because of how comfortable they are! Try a pair out for yourself and feel the difference. Happy, healthy legs will never go out of style.

  • Compression Socks - Your Holiday Gift Giving Guide

Compression Stockings for HolidaysIt might not be Thanksgiving yet, but the holiday season is certainly upon us. Let's give your friends and family what they really want this year: SOCKS. You might think I'm joking, but I assure you I'm not. Here's my evidence for why compression socks are the hottest gift this holiday season:

    1. A recent NYTimes article pronounced compression socks the newest must-have fashion accessory.

    2. The fashion columns have been talking about men's trouser socks all year long. Here. Here. Here.

    3. Stars like Harrison Ford, Lupita N'yongo, and Mindy Kaling were caught wearing and/or talking about their favorite support socks this year (in public!).

    4. Meb Keflezighi won the Boston Marathon in CEP Compression Socks.

So, how do you pick the perfect compression sock for that special someone? Here are our suggestions:

For the Frequent Flyer: Travel socks are a must for long-haul flights - they prevent swelling and relieve tired, aching legs.

    • For that special man in your life, try a Sockwell sock. They're really soft and come in trendy, but subtle patterns.
    • For ladies, we recommend Vim & Vigr Cotton socks in polka dots or argyle for flights. We love how soft these socks are AND the cute patterns.

For the Athlete: Athletic compression socks reduce fatigue and have been linked to improved performance

    • Triathletes: CEP Sleeves will transition seamlessly from water to land.
    • If your athlete is always complaining about aches and pains, the Sigvaris Recovery Sock will ease their pain.
    • Cross-Fit Fanatics: Zensah has a color to match every Cross-Fit team shirt

For the Workaholic: Standing for long periods of time on the job will wreak havoc on your legs, but compression socks can help prevent swelling, varicose veins and more.

For the Expecting Mom: Help the mom-to-be by taking some pressure off of her legs with compression tights and leggings.

    • Preggers has a HUGE selection of colors and styles.

Worried about sizing? Use the size charts on the product pages to help find the correct size. We're also happy to offer a really easy return policy with full refunds for all items returned within 30 days.

  • Compression for Pregnancy - Does it Help?

VIM&VIGR Compression Socks for Expecting Moms

Swollen ankles and feet, tired legs, varicose veins - these are all common complaints during pregnancy. I can talk all day long about the benefits of wearing compression socks to treat and prevent these symptoms, and you can read about how they help on our site, but the most compelling proof is testimonials from real-live expecting moms. Check out what moms-to-be are saying about how compression helped them:

Katie at A Mother Thing tested out Sockwell Calf Sleeves:

"I absolutely LOVED the calf sleeves. I didn’t want to get real socks because I have a history of very sweaty feet, so I wanted something cute that I could wear with my boots OR with sandals. These fit the bill perfectly. I’ve been wearing them A LOT, and when I last saw my doctor, she was really pleased about how much less swollen my legs and feet were. Plus, they just look really cute. Even barefoot they are kind of adorable."

Liz at The Diabetic Mommy tried out the Preggers line of compression:

"Let me start by saying these compression socks are so incredibly comfortable...I started the night off swollen but by the time I got home my feet were back to normal. It was amazing. I’ve washed and worn them every day since. No lie.

Next I had to try the leggings. Those are featured in the last picture. I liked them a lot. Be warned: the first time wearing them can be a struggle. With my swollen legs and pregnant belly in the way I got quite the workout putting them on. Once I did I was in heaven. You could just feel the relief. I have to admit they have worked just as well as the website boasts. I would recommend these to all pregnant ladies, and even diabetics. After wearing these my legs/feet were like new again."

Holly at Eat Great Be Great also tested out Preggers Leggings in a few different colors:

"I was lucky enough to try out the leggings in black and the tights in purple. First and foremost, I was impressed with the fashionable options and colors. Typically, I tend to think of compression garments as being ugly and drab, but that’s certainly not the case with the Preggers line. I also liked the fact that the material is very soft and not at all itchy. Both these products were super comfortable, and not only helped to reduce swelling in my legs and ankles, but also provide the right amount of support for my growing belly and achy back. I could seriously wear these everyday and would highly recommend them for all my fellow pregnant mamas."

Hollie at Mommies With Cents! checked out the VIM&VIGR socks after suffering from varicose veins during her pregnancy:

"When I was pregnant with my first baby my varicose veins started to get worse.  They didn’t really bother me but they sure didn’t look pretty.  By the time I was pregnant with my third baby they started to cause some discomfort.  Luckily, while still unsightly, the uncomfortableness pretty much vanished after birth.  That being said, I’ve been told by doctors that this will likely change as I age.  Compression socks were recommended to help inhibit swelling, alleviate soreness and reduce or prevent spider and varicose veins in the future. First of all, I have to say that I really enjoy the styles of VIM & VIGR socks.  I’ve always liked wearing knee highs and I like fun patterns too.  These are some of the most comfortable socks and very well made.  They’re the first ones I reach for whenever they’re clean!"
