  • Compression Socks or Sleeves? What's the difference?

    CEP Compression Leg Sleeves

Compression socks and sleeves are often worn by athletes to recover faster, energize legs and alleviate the pain from common injuries such as shin splints, plantar fasciitis, cramping, and Achilles strains. Graduated compression provides support, the stabilization of muscles and joints, and helps to decrease fatigue, swelling and soreness.

What's the difference between socks and sleeves?

For the most part, wearing socks or sleeves is a personal preference.  Leg sleeves are made without the foot portion of the sock and provide the same amount of compression as socks.  If you have a lucky pair of ankle socks or sandals, you can still comfortably wear them with calf sleeves. Compression sleeves are also great for triathlons to keep you moving when switching from swimming to cycling. If you are experiencing swelling, you should not wear compression sleeves.

To get the full recovery and performance benefits of compression, knee highs are ideal. If you are traveling, you should wear compression socks instead of sleeves to prevent blood from pooling in the ankles and feet. Compression socks are more effective in preventing blood clots (DVT) when flying or long periods of inactivity.

What should I wear for performance or recovery?

Zensah Compression SocksBoth compression socks and calf sleeves can be worn for performance and recovery. After a long run or tough workout, try 15-20mmHg compression socks to recover faster. To enhance performance, wear socks or sleeves that provide 20-30mmHg compression to boost endurance and to keep your legs feeling energized mile after mile. If you're looking for a sock or sleeve that you can wear for performance, recovery and travel, choose one that provides 15-20mmHg compression.

  • New Colors for 2XU Compression Performance Socks!

    blgo-blog-2xu-girl

2XU Compression Performance Socks and Sleeves are now available in new colors for men and women, including red, purple, green, blue, black, pink, white and navy. 2XU stands for “Two Times You” to represent the multiplication of human performance. 2XU Performance Socks and Sleeves provide 25-30mmHg graduated compression, which is ideal for athletes who want to enhance performance, decrease post-workout soreness, speed up recovery and prevent injury like shin splints. It is also great for traveling and for those who sit or stand for long periods of time to reduce swelling, prevent DVT (deep vein thrombosis) or other conditions.

2xu-running-1-cI recently tried out a pair of the Ice Green 2XU Women’s Compression Performance Socks. I went for a run before heading to the gym. My legs felt energized and fresh my whole workout. A lot of the time, my legs will ache after running on pavement or a tough work out at the gym, but after wearing these socks the next day my legs didn’t feel sore at all. These socks provide 25-30mmHg graduated compression, which means that the most pressure is felt at the bottom of your leg and decreases going up towards the knee. The graduated compression helps with muscle containment and improving blood flow, which is why you recover faster and don’t feel as sore the next day. If you are training or regularly work out, these socks are for you. Plus, they’re safe to sleep in so you don’t always wake up limping!

2XU Performance socks are extremely lightweight, made with a zoned breathability panel as well as seamless stitching for airflow. This material is truly breathable and is perfect for hot weather. Many people shy away from wearing compression socks or sleeves during the summer because they can feel hot or constricting, but thanks to 2XU, you can wear them year-round. These high-tech socks also provide UPF50+ sun protection and are antibacterial. They are made with medical circular 360 degree knit construction from 72% Nylon and 28% Elastane.

2xu-sock-image-3Another great feature is that the socks are marked with either “L” or “R” so you always know which foot to put it on. They also have the size written on the bottom of the foot, which is nice so you don’t have to figure out what size you are later on. If you have sensitive feet or have a hard time getting compression socks on and off, you should consider the 2XU compression performance sleeves. Calf sleeves are a great alternative to wearing compression socks because you can wear them with any sock or shoe you want. I would highly recommend 2XU Compression Performance Socks or Sleeves to anyone who wants to get or stay in shape. To learn more about 2XU and how these products are made, click here.
